CONNECTIONS – In Business and Life

Connecting with others is such an important part of life both from a personal and business perspective.  This week my husband and I have made new connections in our community and our business.  We’ve had several interesting meetings with companies on both the insurance and investment side to find out more about how their products can be of benefit to our clients.  We also attended an interesting event on how social media is impacting business.  I love the idea of how social media can bring people closer together and connect them in a way that years ago would not have been possible.  We’ve learned a lot – and that’s one of the best parts of working in the financial industry.

I have always been fascinated with the idea of six degrees of separation.  The idea behind this concept is that all living things and everything else in the world are six or fewer steps away from each other so that a chain of  a “friend of a friend” statements can be made to connect any two people in a maximum of six steps.  It is an amazing concept and reinforces the idea that this world is a much smaller place than we sometimes realize.

In terms of investing, my husband and I love to explore emerging markets and track how countries outside of Canada are performing in the investment world.  On a personal note, as a family we have hosted international students from all over the world with countries including:  Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, China and Korea.  This has given us an understanding of their culture and traditions and we’ve begun exploring how diversifying a portfolio of investments outside of North America alone, can be of benefit to our clients.

While most of our work week is spent on meeting and working with our clients – it is always great to make connections with new people in the financial industry.  This has certainly been one of those weeks for us!  If you’re interested in making a connection with us and making your six degrees of separation a little smaller:
